Goodbye Maia, Hello Hera!

Leaving the month of growth and rebirth with Maia, Ancient Greek Goddess, we are now welcoming Hera, Greek Goddess, also known as Juno, Roman Goddess. Goddess of union and family. Have you ever wondered why there are so many weddings in June?...

Married to Zeus with a 300 years honeymoon (you don't hear this often these days do you? ;-) ) , Hera is known as the Goddess of marriage, childbirth, and women. A popular belief is that those who marry in June will be blessed by Hera and will have a happy and long marriage. Easy, right? Well, not exactly. Hera is known as Goddess of marriage and childbirth, yes; but she is also Goddess of women....

For those of you who may have read about this before... Zeus was not really suggested in books as a one woman man. And with repeated infidelity, Hera took on a journey of revenge against Zeus and a few got hurt and killed along the way... not all rosy is it?

Why do I talk about Hera? Coming back from a 4-day weekend following the Queen's Platinium Jubilee, we embarque in June with the strong roots and growth from the previous months, ready to blossom and to not let ourselves get disrespected by others or by ourselves. While Hera may have had a more deadly approach to the topic, our work this month will be about growing stronger and becoming the best version of ourselves.

So what happens in June? Well... a lot!

From celebrating the Summer Solstice to being Pride month, June is not just the month of weddings, it has become a month of love, acceptance, and gratitude.

Our classes this month will have sequences on celebrating both Love and the Sun. Getting into the depths or our sun salutations, taking time to breath through each pose, while discovering ourselves and accepting ourselves just the way we are.... who's in?
