What Yoga Style? What's the difference?

Often when we start to practise Yoga or look to find the "style" for ourselves we may not know really what to expect. Going with an open mind and try classes with different teachers would be a good idea. Also, you could learn a little by speaking with us (we don't bite, I promise 😉)

Here I specifically discuss the differences between #restorativeyoga and #hathayoga which are big influencers in my spiritual teaching.

Hatha and restorative yoga are two distinct styles of yoga that offer unique benefits and experiences to practitioners.

Hatha yoga is a traditional form of yoga that focuses on physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation. It is a dynamic practice that aims to align and balance the body, mind, and spirit. Hatha yoga classes typically involve a combination of gentle stretching, strength-building poses, and relaxation techniques.

On the other hand, restorative yoga is a more passive and meditative practice that involves holding poses for extended periods of time. The focus of restorative yoga is on relaxation, stress relief, and deep restoration of the body and mind. Props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks are often used to support the body in each pose, allowing for deep relaxation and release of tension.

While hatha yoga is more active and dynamic, focusing on building strength and flexibility, restorative yoga is a soothing and calming practice that promotes deep relaxation and rejuvenation. Both styles have their own benefits and can be beneficial for different needs and preferences. It's important to explore and try different styles of yoga to discover what works best for you and your body.

Both Hatha and restorative yoga offer a wonderful way to connect with your body and mind on a deeper level. By incorporating these practices into your routine, you can experience the physical, mental, and emotional benefits that each style has to offer. Whether you prefer the active engagement of Hatha yoga or the gentle restoration of restorative yoga, both are valuable tools for enhancing your overall well-being.

Remember to listen to your body, honour your needs, and embrace the journey of self-discovery through the practice of yoga.
