Mental Health as a Priority

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

When our body hurts, we get a distinctive signal to alter us of the pain. It will be no surprise when I say that it is not as straight forward when it comes to our mental health.

Indeed, we often take our mental health into granted...

Mental health allows us to think clearly and as such, make decisions that we truly are in sync with. If you think about it, not being able to think clearly when making an important decision can cause quite a few different types of damages from emotional, physical, financial, etc.

On average, 1/4 people in England suffers from mental health illnesses every year, with 1/6 people potentially facing mental health challenges on a regular basis (

From past traumas to day-to-day life stressors, our mental well-being can be affected without us noticing on the spur of the moment, and sometimes, without us noticing at all.

So how can we support our mental health on a daily basis?

All about you, yes, you read it right. ALL. ABOUT. YOU. And no, this is not selfish. Let me explain...

By looking after yourself you allow to be a better child, friend, spouse, employee, partner, etc as you make sure to give yourself all the good daily rituals to help your mind be feeling at best in front of any situations.

Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean you will never lose it again, or be angry, or feel lost. I am sorry, those situations and others may still happen. However, wouldn't it be nice to be well prepared to face any uncertain and challenging situations you may have to face?

Mental Health & Yoga

Yoga is a practice allowing us to connect both body and mind to the present, and to each other. It s a way of working together as a team, to accept what is and what is not, and so much more! (which we'll explore further in our Yoga philosophy posts ;) )

By being more in the now, we rewire our brain to focus on the present moment instead of reliving the past or developing scenarios about what future situations may or may never be.

When we practise Gentle Yoga at LeReste Flow Yoga, we focus on slow deep breathing at movement and stillness to calm the mind and connect it to both body & soul. This includes a slow Yoga flow following our in and out breath, taking the time to feel the sensations in our body, to connect with them and become more and more present in the moment. At the end of class, a guided relaxation offers the opportunity to dive deeper into our consciousness.

If you would like to learn how to use easy techniques to feel good on a day-to-day basis, join us at our very first Saturday Feel Good Yoga next week, on Saturday 5th March 2022, 8:30am and 9:30am, at Winchester Wellness, Kings Worthy SO23 7LB
